A powerful, brooding single-cask of Bas-Armagnac from the under-the-radar microproducer Charron.

Tasting notes: On the nose you get a fresh bourbon-y surprise of black cherries, dipped into vanilla cream. Precious spices like ceylon cinnamon and cardamom are adding depth and complexity. On the palate it’s powerful and lively with a heavy body, yet totally balanced, with a profound cherry and raisin sweetness that is leading into a lingering, dry finish of nutty chocolate.

About the domaine: Domaine de Charron is a micro-distillery in Bas-Armagnac — annual production is between 5-10 casks, everything aged in new oak. The domaine is led by the wonderful  Jean-Philippe Balay, a former rugby player and son-in-law of the founder Claude Lartigue. Unlike many Armagnac domaines who work with a mobile distiller each year, Charron distill their wine on their own, 80 years old column still.

Appellation: Bas Armagnac
Grape: Baco
ABV: 51.3%
