Folle Blanche 2005

Our Spirits from the Source club continues its Armagnac exploration this fall with this fantastic 2005 pure Folle Blanche from Chateau de Pellehaut.

Pellehaut, hands-down the most refined producer in the Armagnac Ténarèze. It's a region is typically thought of for its brawny and deep spirits, but the Béraut family have been crafting beautiful, elegant Ténarèze Armagnacs with both strength and finesse for two generations now. The domaine was focused on distilling Ugni Blanc until the late 1990s when they transitioned to the Folle Blanche grape, which produces even more ethereal, fruit-forward distillate. We selected this single barrel from their cellars during our last trip to Armagnac and this was bottled for us in April 2024.

Our tasting notes: 

On the nose, there’s creamsicle and salt, dandelion greens and honey-water. Pallet-wise, this is a massive citrus bomb! Orange, grapefruit, with a hint of peaches and fresh herbs again. Almost chartreuse-esque without the funk. There’s a long and powerful finish, with tons of leather and pepper spice.
