En Val du Clos 2019
, Sparkling, 750ML
A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the "En Val du Clos" parcel, this is an electric, precise micro-production bottling from Raphael and Hannah at Bichery. Ready to drink now, but could nicely cellar for a couple of years, too!
Just two barrels produced, less than 500 bottles total. And some cool label art courtesy of the Turin-based illustrator Amedeo Macaluso!
Grapes: 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay — from the 2019 harvest.
Disgorged: April 17th, 2024. 0 g/l dosage, Brut Nature.
Region: Champagne (Côte des Bar)
About the domaine: Raphaël Picconet and Hannah Boesel make beautiful, soulful zero-dosage Champagnes and delicious Coteaux Champenois from a variety of sloped chalky parcels in the Côte des Bar, overlooking the Seine.
There's a real energy in this part of Champagne, we're far from the monoculture of the Marne up north. The small winemaking village of Neuville-sur-Seine is just a few miles from source of the Seine river (which is just a couple of meters wide as it winds its way through the Aube). It's wild and wooded — hunting grounds and wheat farms mix with vines — and the Bichery wines reflect this biodiversity.
