Coteaux Champenois Les Goulats 2018 MAGNUM

Coteaux Champenois is the appellation for producing still wine in Champagne (i.e., non-bubbly). With climate change and the great terroir these cuvées are more & more common and Émilien makes some of the region's best "vins tranquilles."

About the domaine: Emilien Feneuil is at the forefront of a small group of Champagne producers obsessed with excellent farming and thoughtful vineyard management. His vineyards of Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are  “more than biodynamic,” they are veritable gardens unto themselves with fruit trees, wildflowers and other plants growing throughout the parcels. Fruit is meticulously sorted by hand and barrel-fermented in old Burgundian barrels before bottling. 

These are simply genre-bending Champagne and Coteaux Champenois— complex and meditative, herbaceous and saline wines with deep expressions of terroir throughout. There is a little residual sugar (never any dosage), but Emilien is not afraid of sweetness and richness, which is not often the case in most new-wave champagne where “leaner” is the trend.
