Barbera d'Alba DOC 2023

New for the 2023 vintage! In previous years, Marisa blended the Barbera from her Monforte vineyard with Dolcetto to make one cuvée, now she’s broken it out on its own and it shines. There’s a great concentration of fruit in this bottling and it could reward a little bit of patience, but also is drinking beautifully right now.

About the winemaker: Formerly the assistant winemaker at Cascina Fontana, one Barolo‘s most underrated producers, Marisa Bacher has now stepped out on her own in a solo project, reclaiming stunning 60-year-old Dolcetto and Barbera vines on a hilltop in Monforte d'Alba.

In a moment when many of Piedmont’s young winemakers are headed up north to farm grapes in the foothills of the Alps, Marisa is part of a small group of outsiders who have been lucky enough to stake out their own small part of Barolo and will help shape the future of this rich region.
